Avoidant (Anxious) Personality Disorder is a condition characterized by extreme shyness, feelings of inadequacy, and sensitivity to rejection. These individuals feel inferior to others. Individuals with AvPD grow up with excessive social anxiety and withdrawal. The core features of this disorder are: negative emotion (anxiousness (fear of rejection/embarrassment)), and detachment (withdrawal, intimacy avoidance, and anhedonia [decreased ability to feel pleasure]).
